Long Distance
Escondido Signature Moving runs the moving and storage Escondido sellers and buyers lean on when closing dates don't line up. We load your things into wooden storage vaults at your house, truck them to our indoor warehouse, and bring them back when you have keys.
Your things wait in a vault with your name on it, then come home on the day you pick
Contact UsThink of it like a library hold at the Escondido Public Library: it sits on the shelf with your name on the slip until you come in for it. A storage vault is a wooden crate about 5 by 7 by 7 feet that holds roughly one room. We pack it in your driveway, nail the lid on, tag it, and forklift it into the warehouse. Nobody touches your things again until we unload at the new house. That's one load and one unload, instead of carrying the couch in and out of a rented unit twice.
The reasons people call us for storage, from a two-week gap to a year away
This is the storage between closings call we get most. You sell in Escondido, the new place closes three weeks later, and the family bunks with Grandma in the meantime.
Agents want half the furniture gone before the photos. We pull the extra pieces, store them, and bring them to the new place later.
On an out-of-state move, your load can wait at our warehouse until the new place is ready. See long distance moving.
New floors or a kitchen redo? We empty the rooms, store the furniture and set it back once the dust settles.
Files, spare desks and seasonal stock for shops and offices, billed by the vault, pulled when you call.
Deployments, a year overseas or a parent moving into care. Vaults can sit for months, and the rate doesn't climb because you're gone longer.
You pay for the vaults you fill. Half-empty ones get combined.
Vault storage with us runs $79 per vault per month in 2026, and the first month is $49 a vault when we also move you. A two-bedroom home fills three or four vaults, so most families pay $237 to $316 a month after that first month. Delivery out of storage is billed at our normal hourly crew rate.
| Home size | Vaults | First month | Each month after |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio or 1-bedroom | 2 to 3 | $98 to $147 | $158 to $237 |
| 2-bedroom | 3 to 4 | $147 to $196 | $237 to $316 |
| 3-bedroom | 5 to 6 | $245 to $294 | $395 to $474 |
| 4-bedroom | 7 to 8 | $343 to $392 | $553 to $632 |
A garage packed to the rafters can add a vault or two. Pianos, rugs and patio sets get counted at the walk-through so the number doesn't move later.
A self-storage unit is cheaper per square foot, and some people like having the key. But you rent the truck, you carry everything in, and you carry it all out again later. In an Escondido August, a metal roll-up unit bakes. We've seen customers' units top 100 degrees inside, with candles melted and a leather couch gone stiff.
Vaults cost a bit more per month but save a whole moving day of labor, because the crew handles everything once at each end. Our warehouse is indoors with the doors closed against the sun. It is not climate-controlled storage, so for a grand piano or oil paintings over a long summer, ask us about a climate-controlled room we can book for you.
No food, plants, propane, gas cans, paint, cleaning chemicals or anything alive. Keep jewelry, cash, passports and family papers with you. Drain the fuel from mowers, and give the fridge a day to dry with the door propped open, so nothing in the vault starts to smell.
Heavy, square pieces go in first: dressers, the washer, boxed books. Mattresses stand in their mattress bags along one wall. Sofas go on end, padded and wrapped in stretch wrap. Boxes fill the gaps so nothing shifts when the forklift lifts it. Lid on, nails in, tag on. Then it gets a spot on the warehouse rack.
Call two or three days ahead with the delivery date. We pull your vaults onto the truck the morning of, and the crew unloads and sets the furniture where you want it. Need one box in the middle of the stay? We can pull a single vault at the warehouse for a small handling fee.
A few habits that make the day you get your things back a lot easier
Room and contents, on the side and the top. When the vault opens at the new house, the crew can drop each box in the right room the first time.
Sheets, towels, a few plates, tools and the TV remote. Mark it and we load it last so it comes out first.
Wood furniture needs to breathe. We pad it with moving blankets and only wrap the upholstery.
Vaults can go straight onto a long distance truck, and they can come out to San Marcos, Vista or anywhere else in North County on a local delivery.
As long as you need. Most customers store for two to eight weeks between closings, but some vaults sit with us for a year or more during a deployment or a long remodel. Billing is month to month, so you're never locked into a term, and the rate stays the same the whole time.
Yes, with a day's notice. The warehouse is not a walk-in self-storage lot, so we pull your vault down from the rack and set it on the floor for you. If you just need one or two boxes, tell us which vault and we'll have them ready at the front when you arrive.
Our warehouse is indoors and closed, so it stays far cooler than a metal self-storage unit in summer, but it is not climate-controlled. For most furniture and boxes that's fine. For a piano, fine art or antiques stored through a hot summer, we can arrange a climate-controlled room and quote it separately.
Your goods carry the same basic protection in storage that they had on the truck. For things you'd really miss, we offer full value protection, and your homeowner's or renter's policy may also cover goods in storage. Call your agent and ask, because it often costs little or nothing to add.
No. You can pack yourself, or our crew can pack the whole house the day before the vaults are loaded. Most people do a mix: they pack clothes, books and linens, and leave the kitchen, the art and the lamps to us. Everything gets an inventory number either way.
Our driveway in Hidden Meadows scares delivery drivers. Ray came out, looked at the hairpin and said they'd bring the small truck and shuttle. Four loads, zero scrapes, beds made that night.
Moved my mom from the house she'd lived in for 40 years into a condo near Kit Carson Park. The crew labeled everything by her new floor plan and set up her bed and reading chair first. She was settled by dinner.
We moved our dental office over a weekend. Every crate was numbered to the new floor plan and the exam chairs were where we wanted them Monday at 8. Price was what they wrote down.
